SAID SAMAN FARAH (1921–1985)

It was a beautiful night, September 8, 1984. On this memorable day for Zacatecas, by coincidence several friends were gathered in an old place, located on the ground floor of the old Palacio hotel. An important heterogeneous group in terms of their activities: there were lawyers, professors, engineers, doctors, students, etc., in that they were all there to celebrate the farewell of the establishment located there and that began years ago, on September 11 of 1943, next to the Paquín and that for the third time would change its registered office.

The host owner of the establishment surrounded by his friends and regular customers for many years, in moments rambled, perhaps remembering his arrival in Zacatecas in the year 1939 when he was barely 18 years old; I came to visit a sister who had a clothing business, "La Violeta"; In addition to Arabic, his native language spoke French perfectly. He was born on September 11, 1921 in Homs, Syria, which was a protectorate of France. When he arrived in Mexico he did not speak a word of Spanish but over time he mastered it. For years he was a French teacher for many generations at the Institute of Sciences in Zacatecas.

His business was acquired by buying it from a friend of Greek nationality, from which derives its name that it bears to date: Acropolis, which means the highest part, in Athens.

The success of this place through so many decades is explainable, because it was and continues to be the natural environment of Zacatecan society. Different layers of the population enjoy good coffee. Going to the ACROPOLIS ice cream parlor was almost a rite, especially for the students, at the end of their classes...

Today we can see the establishment near the majestic cathedral, fully seeing the new time of the modern age.

Said, who came from distant lands, knew how to conquer hearts; already rooted in his new red land. His memory as a good man and upright citizen will continue on the path of history, because we are all Zacatecas.
